ACOG Elects New Officers

Washington, DC -- Today The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) announced the election of Kenneth L. Noller, MD, of Massachusetts, as President Elect; Sandra A. Carson, MD, of Texas, as Vice President; James T. Breeden, MD, of Nevada, as Treasurer; Peter A. Schwartz, MD, of Pennsylvania, as Assistant Secretary; and Steven J. Fleischman, MD, of Connecticut, as Fellow-at-Large, at its 54th Annual Clinical Meeting. They will assume their respective offices on May 11, 2006.

Dr. Kenneth L. Noller is the Louis E. Phaneuf professor and chair of the department of obstetrics and gynecology and professor in the department of family and community medicine at Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston, MA. He is also the chief obstetrician-gynecologist at Tufts-New England Medical Center. Active in ACOG since 1979, Dr. Noller currently chairs the Precis Advisory Committee. He has served on numerous ACOG committees and review boards and has chaired the committees on Gynecologic Practice and Scientific Program and the Clinical Document Review Panel-Gynecology. He has served as a consultant editor and on the editorial board of Obstetrics & Gynecology, and as chair of Precis: Gynecology. Dr. Noller has held leadership positions in a number of professional societies, including terms as president of the Obstetrical Society of Boston and the American Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology. He received his medical degree from Creighton University in Omaha, NE, followed by a residency at the Mayo Graduate School of Medicine in Rochester, MN.

Dr. Sandra A. Carson is a professor of ob-gyn at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, TX. An ACOG Fellow since 1985, she has chaired ACOG committees on Patient Education and Scientific Program. She has also served as an associate editor for ACOG Current Journal Review (predecessor of ACOG Clinical Review). Dr. Carson has been a member of the Liaison Committee for Obstetrics and Gynecology (LCOG) and has chaired the LCOG Task Force on Student Recruitment. She has served as president of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) and editor-in-chief of both ASRM News and Journal Watch for Women's Health. Dr. Carson received her medical degree from Northwestern University in Evanston, IL, and completed her residency at Prentice Women's Hospital in Chicago, IL.

Dr. James T. Breeden is president of the Carson Medical Group. He is immediate past chair of ACOG District VIII and has served as chair of the Council of District Chairs. He has been a member of the Nominations, Coding and Nomenclature, and Finance committees and of the Task Force on Strategic Planning. An ACOG Fellow since 1977, Dr. Breeden has been an active member of ACOG's Nevada Section, serving as vice chair and chair and receiving the 2005 Outstanding District Service Award for District VIII. He received his medical degree from Marquette University in Milwaukee, WI, and completed his residency at Mercy Hospital in San Diego, CA.

Dr. Peter A. Schwartz is a clinical professor of ob-gyn at Drexel University School of Medicine in Philadelphia, PA. He was the chair of ob-gyn and director of residency training in ob-gyn at the Reading Hospital and Medical Center in Reading, PA, for the past 18 years. An active ACOG Fellow since 1976, Dr. Schwartz has served as chair of the Committee on Ethics, chair of the Pennsylvania Section, a member of the American Medical Association's House of Delegates, and on the District III Advisory Council. He is a current member of ACOG's Committee on Government Relations and the Residency Review Committee for Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dr. Schwartz has also served on the Council on Resident Education in Obstetrics and Gynecology (CREOG). He is a past president of the Obstetrical Society of Philadelphia and the Hampshire County Medical Society. He has received ACOG's Outstanding District Service Award for District III and the Obstetrical Society of Philadelphia's J. Robert Willson Award for long and meritorious service to the profession. Dr. Schwartz completed his medical degree at Boston University in Boston, MA, and his residency at Yale-New Haven Hospital in New Haven, CT.

Dr. Steven J. Fleischman is in private group practice with Obstetrics, Gynecology & Menopause Physicians in New Haven, CT. He has been a member of the ACOG Grievance Committee and the Committee on Electronic Medical Records. He has served as chair and vice chair of the Junior Fellow College Advisory Council. Dr. Fleischman has been a member of ACOG's Executive Board, the Donald F. Richardson Memorial Prize Paper Committee, and the Task Force on Expert Witnesses. Additionally, he has served as ACOG District I Junior Fellow chair and as Junior Fellow chair of ACOG's Connecticut Section. Dr. Fleischman is currently the president of the New Haven County Medical Association, and he holds leadership positions with Ob-Gyns for Women's Health and the Connecticut State Medical Society. He completed his medical degree at Albany Medical College in Albany, NY, and his residency at Yale-New Haven Hospital in New Haven, CT.
